JIU Inspectors Participate in 220th Session of the UNESCO Executive Board

On October 10th, JIU Inspectors attended the meeting of the Special Committee during the 220th session of the UNESCO Executive Board to address questions regarding JIU reports relevant to UNESCO.

The Special Committee considered the eight recommendations stemming from six reports and one management letter issued by the JIU during 2023, which were directed to legislative organs and governing bodies. The status update of the UNESCO management response around recommendations concerning administration of justice, human resources, management and administration, and accountability are under consideration, in progress, or already implemented by UNESCO.

The JIU acknowledges UNESCO’s consistent implementation of its recommendations. As of June 2024, UNESCO has implemented 84.81% of accepted recommendations issued by the JIU between 2014 and 2023. Additionally, the Executive Board highlighted new areas of focus in ongoing and future reviews by the JIU. Among these system-wide reviews are analyses on budget, mutual recognition, health services, prevention of sexual exploitation and abuse and the single-audit principle.
